How far does a barrier move in the event of a collision? What is the safety distance to the festival area? These questions are decisive when using a mobile vehicle barrier. The international standards IWA, PAS or ASTM merely specify the maximum displacement of the barrier. If the barrier remains within this distance, the test is passed. The barrier is certified. Therefore, the penetration depths of the barriers on the market are also very different. Some move only a few meters, others over 20 meters.
If a barrier penetrates against 20 metres, a safety zone of at least 25 metres must be established behind the barrier. Food and sales stands may therefore only be set up after this zone. This is practically impossible for city festivals or Christmas markets with limited space. When choosing a mobile vehicle barrier, it is therefore essential to pay attention to the penetration depth. You will find this on the manufacturer's test certificate.
ARMIS ONE is the European leader in the field of mobile, manually folding vehicle barriers. The advantages of the low penetration depth are obvious:
Protect festival visitors reliably from amok drives or enable controlled passages? The one does not exclude the other! With ARMIS ONE we have succeeded in developing a barrier with manually foldable segments. If access for emergency vehicles or deliveries is required, the blocking segments can be unlocked and lowered manually. This results in a passage of 3 meters or any width - depending on the number of lowered elements. This is also practical outside of festival hours. In this way, entire roads can be opened up for traffic.
Foldable barrier segments require a specially solid construction so that they can absorb the impact energy in the event of a collision. For this reason, ARMIS ONE's barrier segments are made of special steel. Despite their relatively low weight, the blocking elements offer reliable protection.
The low weight simplifies manual operation. After unlocking, the blocking segments can be raised and lowered with little effort.
Mobility and flexibility are crucial when using a mobile vehicle barrier. If the locking system has a modular design, it can be used for different purposes and regardless of location. This eliminates the need to purchase different systems.
ARMIS ONE can be used anywhere. Independent of ground conditions or barrier width. The individual barrier modules are simply placed on the floor with forklift trucks or a small crane - without any further fixed floor connections. The individual modules can then be connected to form a "chain" of any length. This increases efficiency and also offers maximum flexibility. This allows both wide streets and small lanes to be effectively blocked off.
ARMIS ONE consists of a blocking module and six separate ramps. This allows different applications. If, for example, a road is blocked off without access, the ramps can be omitted. This reduces the installation effort, but also the protective effect.
At large events and smaller events with a high number of people, an optimal flow of people and thus a quick escape is enormously important. In the event of panic or evacuation, visitors must be able to leave the site quickly and unhindered. If visibility is restricted by large blocking elements, visitors may feel trapped and panic may develop. A restriction in visibility also means that people who are directly affected perceive the attacks late. It is already too late to escape.
ARMIS ONE meets the standards for escape route widths. With a distance of 1.20 between the barrier elements, there is an optimum flow of people. Escape routes as well as access to the area to be protected remain unobstructed. The barrier elements can also be completely folded down in a few seconds so that the entire barrier width can be passed unhindered.
ARMIS ONE was successfully certified in April 2019 according to the following international standards:
Block off a 9-meter-wide road in 30 minutes? No problem for ARMIS ONE! The individual elements are placed on the floor with a forklift truck or small crane - without any floor connection. The blocking elements can be connected to each other with special connectors, which further increases their effectiveness. Put on the ramps and you're done! Staff employed: one crane operator and two workers.
Large barrier elements with small space requirements? Exactly! ARMIS ONE has been designed so that all accessories such as connectors, cover plates and tools can be stored inside the barrier. In addition, both the blocking elements and the ramps can be stacked individually.
Heavy-duty pallets specially designed for ARMIS ONE enable clean and safe stacking. Since the heavy-duty pallets can also be stacked one below the other, the required storage space is reduced to a minimum. The pallets can be lifted on both sides with forklifts or pallet trucks.
ARMIS ONE has been developed in compliance with the international standards of accessibility.
With a clearance height of only 110 mm and a distance of 1.20 metres between the barrier segments, even people with disabilities can drive over the barrier with their wheelchair without any help.
ARMIS ONE does not require security personnel when open or closed. The barrier can be secured in such a way that it cannot be manipulated by unauthorised persons.
Unlike automatic barriers, ARMIS ONE does not require regular maintenance. The robust design and manual operation guarantee long, trouble-free operation. After intensive use cycles or in the event of severe weather conditions, it can be advantageous to clean and relubricate the moving parts.
